1        Always lock and double-check all the doors and windows, anytime you leave home, even for a short period of time.
2        Do not leave your garage door open. It is an invitation. When leaving town, disconnect the garage door opener, and manually secure all doors.
3        Do not leave a spare key under the doormat or under a flowerpot. Burglars check familiar hiding places.
4        Teach anyone using your facility the use and place of all emergency telephone numbers: 911, local Police, Fire, Poison Control, hospitals …
5        When a stranger asks to use the phone, BEWARE, make the call yourself.  Do NOT let them in your home.
6        Do not keep cash or valuable jewelry in visible areas around the home, especially areas that can be seen from an outside window.
7        Use a timer to turn lights on and off at varying times, make it appear that someone is there.
8        Keep bushes and trees trimmed to eliminate hiding places for burglars.
9        Whenever you go on vacation, request that a trusted friend, neighbor or relative remove newspapers and door hangers from visible areas.
10    Invest in good quality locks and security doors. Deadbolt locks are recommended. Use twist locks or dowels to additionally secure vulnerable windows and doors, especially sliding glass doors.
